We did some beautiful sailing from Porto to Gran Canaria. We could just feel it get warmer every day. When arriving to Gran Canaria I relived some memories from 2 years ago, when I was on the Regina Maris, with School at Sea. Then, when we arrived to the Canaries, we could see El Teide -the volcano that created Tenerife- very clearly. Today I could see it again. We are not going to Tenerife this time, but seeing that did really remind me of the good times I had during School at Sea. Also, the weather is sublime. Having 29°C here while it is freezing in the Netherlands is such a good feeling.

That night we went out to have a drink in town. With a group of 9 people we went to a rooftop bar in the old part of Las Palmas. Later another group of 9 crew joined us. It was a nice evening, I even got to practice my Spanish a little bit again when talking to the taxi driver. However, I did go home early this time, being the responsible person that I am… ;)

On the 6th of December we are leaving for Martinique, on the other side of the ocean! I am excited for my 3rd Atlantic Crossing, especially because this ship sails so beautifully and so fast. We should be there in no time!

Today is Sailor’s Sunday, which means no maintenance! One week into the crossing, and it almost feels like a real Sunday off because all of a sudden I have all this free time. Luckily I can spend it on writing this blog and editing the website, because I am quite behind. The website is not even up yet! I will also use some of the time today to get some extra sleep.
